Teaching humanity in the classroom: introductory lesson

How can humanity be taught – and what does it mean in concrete terms for young people around the world today? The innovative teaching tool Project Humanity opens up learning spaces in which students can experience, reflect on and apply the four humanitarian principles – humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence.

Whether in ethics, religion, community, society, ESD or as part of an interdisciplinary project week, Project Humanity encourages students to engage with global challenges, individual values and concrete opportunities for action.

Teachers will find practical support for implementing education for sustainable development (ESD) in line with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG 4.7) in this modular school project. The modules are tailored to young people aged 13 to 18 and were developed in close cooperation with humanitarian organisations such as the ICRC, the SRC and the SDC.
